Veronica Lupa, or just Lupa, lived for most of her life knowing she was different. She never got sick. She always excelled in sports. Still, even as news about metahumans started becoming more and more difficult to ignore, she kept her head down. She didn't want to be different for being a metahuman, so she refused to believe it. Instead, she wanted to stand out because she was exceptionally beautiful and exceptionally intelligent and talented. She studied hard in school, using her scholarly pursuits as a way to stay away from her peers, who were increasingly asking questions. Finally, she got into an exceptional business school and graduated at the top of her class. It all came easy for her. She even lined up an exciting new job that promised to move her far from her home city.
In private, she experimented with just what she could do. Her senses were amazing. Her agility and reflexes were far better than any normal athlete she met. She could even heal wounds, although certainly not as fast as some of those people on the news. That, at least, allowed her to keep it secret.
Then, times got tough. She lost her job as her company went under, and she needed money to pay her debts. She was desperate, and made a mistake that she still blames herself for: she accepted an invitation to be part of a study. Little did she know that the study related to the metahuman side of her, the side she most wanted to hide. And after it was done, and she was the sole survivor, she would never be able to hide what she was again.
Now, she claims that her powers originate from the study, if anyone learns of them and she absolutely has to give an explanation. For those that don't, she behaves as a perfectly respectable, if cut-throat and seemingly cold, business executive. She struggles to pick up the pieces in her life and to make sure that she will never have to stoop that low again. Despite her striking appearance, she is determined to get everything a girl could hope for: power and money, and plenty of both. She's gotten a new job with Cyclopea International (DayOneCyclopeaInternational), a vast corporate company. She is quickly becoming one of the top players in the city's office, which is one of the company's major hubs.
On the other hand, there's that conscience that prods at her. Even as she climbs up, there is a little pang at everyone she steps on. It hasn't yet prevented her from doing anything, but things are changing. As she gets frustrated with some of the hold-ups in her advancement because of her metahuman nature, she is starting to experiment with turning something that's always been a drawback into an asset...
This means that at night, Lupa sheds her jacket and skirt and puts on her form-fitting black cotton suit, being sure to wear a mask to hide her unmistakable hair. Fortunately for her, her face looks human enough, so she doesn't have to cover up completely. So far, she's just done a bit of sneaking into places she can't get during the day. But who knows what that might become....
Lupa is a character in the Day 1 story arc: DayOneCharacterProfiles, where she is of the Shadow Meta-Archetype.
