Metahumans are, basically, individual people that have an ability to tap
into a huge source of power. How that power manifests in the metahuman is
different for each one. As is how they use that power. Sometimes it is
purely physical in nature, sometimes a type of energy projection, and
other times an affinity or ability. Some individuals show a change in
their genetic structure, others seems entirly normal except for their
'meta' abilities.
Most metahumans that are active now were born within a couple of years
after the Jupiter Ignition, which places them in their late teens and
early twenties. There are, however, descrepencies. Some metahumans are
much older, some much younger. There are even rumors of a few metahumans
that are hundreds of years old, which has given rise to theories that the
cause of meta-abilities isn't related to the Jupiter Ignition at all.
In any case, just about everyone envies the metahumans. Due to the focus
of the media, metahumans are larger than life. They get the best jobs,
they have the best fights, they get the best seats in restaurants and
theaters. They're exciting, rich, and everyone knows that even the worst
metahuman villain will stop to sign autographs. Right?
