The Jupiter Effect Radiation had one very weird side effect that has gone unnoticed by Earth’s population. It has opened small holes that have breached the very fabric of the Milky Way Galaxy. These holes, at first microscopic, have had twenty years to grow larger. There are only a few holes on Earth, but one of them happens to be in Los Angeles itself! You are an extra-dimensional creature, either humanoid or otherwise, and you have found your way through the hole and are now here. Extra-Dimensional creatures have “powers” that are, in fact, magical in nature, and therefore not necessarily subject to the normal laws of physics or other important sciences that universal laws hold to be true. Your powers therefore are very odd, and allow you to do things like breach physical invulnerability.
HUMANOID: You can totally pass for human, though you may be the wrong color. Just blame it on the Jupiter Effect and take your place among the Metas as either a Rock Star or Shadow. The holes have only recently become open, so you are new to not just Earth, but the planet as a whole. It is all strange and wonderful to you, though whether that means you are going to help Sentient life forms or do terrible things to them, is up to you. Players who want to play such things as Ancient Vampires or Mummies have the opportunity by making them come from a different dimension as humanoid extra-dimensional creatures.
MAGIC CRITTERS: You aren’t a Critter by the normal definition, which is a human that has been transformed by the Jupiter Effect or some other earthly incident into a freak. You are simply a member of your own race, but that race doesn’t look anything like a humanoid. You may be extremely intelligent, or more instinctual/predatory. Whichever, you are here now, so might as well make the best of it and explore this strange new world.
Positives: Extra-Dimensional characters can use magic! They can muck with the natural laws and do things beyond the scope of normal. This gives them an advantage against all of the other classes in combat, who are restricted to laws of gravity, physics, and other aspects of universal laws.
Negatives: Earth culture is strange to you. Thanks to magic, you can understand the native language of these people. That doesn’t mean what they say makes any sense to you at all. You are also singular, and cut-off from your race. You really are alone here, until you can make some alliances with other characters. If the DMHA found out about you, they would open a whole new division! You don’t want to be caught or discovered, because you would be a revelation the same way extra-terrestrials would.
Practical Role-Play: You are in a new dimension. All technology is new to you. The sense of discovery is incredible. At the same time, you may have extremely powerful magical powers that can cause you to become a great hero or a terrible menace to Earth.
- oh, no, not radiation again! :) While for D-1, the information in the first part can be used, in general it's best not to 'explain' a character's arrival or origin mechanism. A suggestion is great, but letting the players come up with something adds diversity. . --JupiterAdmin
