The One World Government Organization almost succeeded. Geneva, Switzerland almost became the center of the world. Largely due to the United States’ and China’s resistance, it failed. As a result, many nations are near to hostile to the good ol’ USA and the government is taking major steps to protect itself from threats, both inside and out.
IMMIGRATION and the CANADIAN COLD WAR
This has become a huge issue once again. The United States is closing its borders, insulating itself for the first time in history. The fence separating the US from Mexico is going to become a wall with military units stationed with orders to kill. The US-Canadian border is a potential hot zone as Canada was completely ready to give up its sovereignty to the OWGO, and the two nations’ partnership has dissolved into hostility, to the point where a military buildup at Niagra is forming, though both nations claim that a North American war is impossible and that all issues will be resolved peacefully, there is a great worry that a Canadian-European alliance might form and that war might be inevitable. Interestingly enough, in these troubled times, China has reached out to the United States to give them support, even though the two nations have completely different philosophical notions, both of the Super Powers want to keep their governments intact, and that is where they see eye to eye.
One interesting thing of note, however, is that the United States eagerly accepts nationals from any nation in the globe that is either Meta or a super scientist. They see this is a major aspect of future conflicts, and want to dominate by having as many “Jupiter Affected” personnel as they can. This has further widened the gap between the USA and the rest of the world, but there are some nations that see Jupiter Affected individuals as hazards and simply have them executed. Many, therefore, HAVE fled to the United States.
THE MILITARY
The armed forces are quite busy with the Canadian Cold War, and with keeping tabs on the Mexican border as well. They figure that the DMHA has the Meta situation under control, and only when an extremely powerful Meta that even the other metas have trouble with shows up, do they arrive to assist in the capture or elimination of the threat.
The Military is still firmly in the hands of the US government. Though there are OGWO infiltrators who have some generals under their influence, for the most part, the integrity of the US armed forces is still sound.
FEDERAL VS STATE GOVERNMENT
Washington feels a need at this delicate time to reign in all of its territories. The tightening of national controls has led some to speculate that instead of worrying about Canada, the USA should be worried about a second Civil War. Though the situation between state and federal government agencies is tense, it is not, as outsiders think, hostile. The threat of a second civil war is mostly the stuff of fantasy. On the other hand, manipulators with skill could make it happen, and this is an objective of OWGO. One they are serious about.
THE PRESIDENT
President Nathan Lynch is in the first year of his second term. He is a popular president because Americans by and large were not interested in One World Government and Lynch was a pivotal figure in stopping it from happening. Though many fear the next World War is in fact coming, Lynch’s approval rating is through the roof right now.
Unfortunately, Lynch shows very little in the way of high morality. In these tenuous times, the President has given many orders to secure the nation from within and without that border if not cross the line on all out tyranny. Many people have disappeared due to the objectives of the Nation’s current leader. This being said, Lynch is less concerned with self-interests such as wealth, and his agenda is around keeping America free from the One World Government Organization. He is not paranoid. OWGO would love to assassinate Lynch.
Lynch has surprisingly shown a great interest in the Jupiter Effect, feeling that if there is another world war, it will be the Metas, not nuclear bombs, that will decide it’s outcome. Though the Registration Act removes rights from Metas, Lynch’s public show of affection for Meta heroes has both continued to improve his approval rating and has largely contributed to the media treating Meta’s as rock stars to be celebrated.
Lynch has convinced the House and Senate to increase the budget of the CIA, Armed Forces, FBI, and the DMHA by a large degree, and it is Lynch that has closed the borders to sovereign nations and ordered the military buildup at Niagra to keep a close watch on Canada. It is largely believed that if any aggression by Europe is displayed against the USA or China, that Lynch’s first move will be to invade Canada, with Mexico possibly coming soon afterwards.
THE GOVERNATOR
Governor Ernie Schwarzenegger, son of former actor and governor Arnold, is the Governor of California. He is also an incredibly powerful Meta, and the first Meta elected to a major governmental post. He is firmly Republican, is “good friends” with President Lynch, and is notorious for breaking the spine of a “Super Villain” who threatened to blow up San Diego with a bomb, one of the major reasons for his popularity and successful campaign. “All the major cities of California had better support my policies and the policies of President Lynch,” the Governator said in a recent interview. “Or else I will be forced to come by and break the spines of the people in charge. Oh wait a minute, I can’t do that, because most of them have no spines because they are girly men!” Inciting his rivals and opponents without fear of reprisal, the Governator uses strong-arm tactics to get what he wants, even calling out the National Guard on occasion, even though doing so wasn’t necessary.
The Governator has the following Meta Powers:
-- The Governator can turn himself into a huge, hulking invulnerable Man-Machine that can tear metal apart in his bare hands, fire two shotguns or assault rifles simultaneously and with complete accuracy, and run at 150 MPH. There are some rumors about him being able to time travel as well, but the Governator himself has dismissed that notion as "Ridiculous as the idea that the Democrats have logical health plan reforms."
MAYOR ROOME
George Roome, mayor of Los Angeles, has also been a popular figure in the city. Siding with big business corporations and the entertainment conglomerates, Roome has seen his support remain steady as he nears the end of his first term as mayor. Seen as friendly yet everywhere, Roome had made his presence felt.
