When players decide not to play a character any longer there is a few
choices they can make. They can RP out a TP where the character is
'removed from play' through some means, they can help find a replacement
player, or they can abandon the character in a 'paused' state.
In the first case, the end result is that the Character will not be
available for RP any longer. This could be through death, lost in space,
lost in another dimension, lobotomized, etc. Basically, the character
will no longer be able to interact effectively with the game world.
In the second case, the current player researches and finds another player
that would like to play the character. This is actually the preferred
method, since it helps limit the 'downtime' of the character. While the
incomming player can rewrite the stats if they want to, it is not required
unless they feel the need for a change.
In either case, the character's past history should remain the same, and
if changes to the character's current situation are needed they should be
RPed out. The previous player should do their best to help minimize any
transitional problems for a new player as possible.
The last option is when the player leaves the character fallow. In this
case, staff can try and find a replacement, but most often this will mean
the character will need to be re-applied for or will be assumed to have
died or mysteriously vanished. Eaten by the Paisley.
If at all possible, players should try to present some sort of ending for
their characters if they need to leave the game. Just dissappearing
leaves an uncertain void for the RP of the characters around the fallow
character... a void that can often be extremely frustrating.
But for those other players... please be understanding. A player that
needs to leave a game usually has a hard enough time leaving a place that
was fun and relaxing.
