There are three types of NPCs in this Game. Those are Played NPCs,
Non-Played NPCs and Player NPCs. Which all gets rather confusing since
NPC includes the term Non-Player... Here's the gist.
Played NPCs: These are characters that the staff (and sometimes selected
players) Role Play that are considered NPCs. These characters shouldn't
be spoofed or included in RP by other players without the owning player's
permission... Just like the same protocol for other PCs. If you're not
sure, ask first and save angst later.
Non-Played NPCs: These are characters that are established in the theme,
or logical parts of the Theme, of some sort of rank or position.
Examples: The President of the United States, the Governor of California,
the LA County Sherrif. As long as these characters are used responsably and logically there shouldn't be
any problem... It is requested that logs with them are sent to the log
list or at least a brief write-up is sent to the bboard.
This is more so that these characters can have a developed personality
that remains consistant than anything else. If a player decides to start
using such a character regularly, they should be prepared to take
responsability for NPCing that character for others.
Player NPCs: These are either relatively minor characters that are
logical to the theme or original characters invented by a player to
further RP. Examples for the first type: An individual bartender from
downtown, an insurance salesman from Idaho, a telephone repairman.
Examples of the second type: Brendon, the brother of a guard a PC killed
two years ago; John Stewert, Mary Stewert's evil father in law, a Shao-lin
priest that some PCs rescue; Floya, a rich businesswoman that has hired
the PC in the past.
Player NPCs should by far be the most numerous in a game. They can range
from shop keepers to soldiers, from corporate execs to scientists. What
should be remembered is that these characters are there to enhance RP for
other players... not to take focus away from them. They should add to the
fun rather than causing it.
