Jupiter's Children is a game based on an original theme, with its own
setting and world, not to mention recent history. Further, characters are
expected to be part of the game's theme and setting, rather tham
immigrants from another theme. It is quite alright, however, to /base/ a
character on someone from another theme.

The goal is to make a character that resembles the original enough to be
familiar to the player, while still being original enough to call the
character their own. That's part of what the base concept is all about.
When a player knows what really interests them and what motivates them
about a character it is often relatively easy to make an original character
that holds those same attributes.

The best way to make a character original is to play a game of 'what if'
using the other attributes of the character. Since those attributes make
up the core of the concept, that leaves a lot of the character free for
modification. In other words, keep the core the same but fiddle with
everything else. Think of where changes can grow, through adversity or
development, what differences there might be in the character because of
the change in setting and theme, etc.

The things that are usually first noticed in a character, especially those
in super-powers comics are their powers. And while powers are usually
quite distinctive between the characters, they are usually not what really
defines the same character. A well-written character will have goals and
motivations that, while they may be influenced by what they can accomplish
with powers, are not solely based on those powers.

The main point is to have characters on this game that are original and
fit the theme, but still exciting and interesting enough to keep the
player interested and willing to play the character. Concentrate on what
makes the character fun not just for yourself but for other people and the
result will almost always work out.
