There are two things to consider when converting a fantasy-based character
to a mostly superhero setting. The first is to decide what happens to
'magic' or whatever the original game may call it. Jupiter's Children
has no general 'magical' or 'mythical' power or force in the game, so
abilities that would be considered magic in other games would need to be
converted to powers, psionics, pseudoscience or other elements.
Basically, if the character can do things to the environment without using
tools then it is considered psionics. If tools are needed but those tools
are wacky in nature, and probably not mass-produced, then it is pseudo-
science. Most of the items found in games like Paranoia and Ghostbusters
would be considered pseudoscience. Strange powers or abilities, such as
would be found in a Super-Hero game, would fit in any of the above
categories depending on their effect and source.
The reason to decide whether to keep those aspects of the character or not
can vary. Sometimes they'll be difficult to explain very well. Perhaps
the player would like to try a character's personality without the power
they are used to. Or maybe the player figures it just won't work well in
the current setting and would like to try something else.
