There are few things to consider when converting a alien-based character for Jupiter's Children setting. The first is to decide what kind of effect being an alien has on the character, both in respects to mundane aspects and 'super powers'. Another consideration is if the alien race has been invented by the player, is modeled from another source, or if the player is using another race directly. Also consider how the alien has arrived on Earth and what kind of impacts their transportation may have (in some cases this may be literal!). And consider how aliens tend to be represented in the superhero genre.

Anything from racial abilities to technology falls into what would be considered 'powers' on JC and should be treated as such. Alien characters tend to be a mish-mash of technology and genetics. Because if they don't have some sort of racial ability that sets them apart from humans, they aren't more than a funny-looking human. On top of that, they tend to have any number of gadgets... technology common where they are from. Laser guns to supercomputers, they can have all sorts of nifty toys.

In other words being an alien is treated as the character's background while what the alien can do is treated as powers.

The one thing a player should break themselves out of is that their alien is just like any other alien of their race. This is because of how aliens are treated in the superhero genre. Looking at superhero comics, while aliens are quite common, they are also extremely diverse. There are rarely more than one alien of any species on Earth, and even when there are more there is rarely more than a few. Even then, many times aliens of the same species have demonstrated different abilities and powers. Sometimes wildly so. The exceptions tend to be the result of major plot lines such as an alien invasion.

This gist is that just because a character is an alien doesn't make them less unique in respects to Jupiter's Children. In fact, as far as Kimi is concerned, having an alien background is the same as a fantasy or mythical one.
