Traits are those elements about a character that sets them apart from
others. They can range from personality to a favorite weapon. From a
background NPC that provides income to a spirited pony. There are two
important reasons for setting traits for your character. The first is
that it provides a record of all those elements about your character to
make them easier to keep track of. The other is that when you say you
have something or can do something, other players can see that it
(hopefully) was not a spur-of the moment decision on your part if they are
unfamiliar with your character.
In short, traits help keep track of details and help resolve problems. To
see more information on the latter, check out 'news policy'. To see more
information on the former, check out the subtopics listed in 'news char
setup'. To learn about setting up traits, see '+help traits'.
An exhaustive account isn't neccessary, a few sentences is often enough.
Put in what you think makes the trait significant, gives a good feel for
what you believe it should describe.
Oh, and the traits listed here in the news are examples and guidelines.
Players can specify their own categories, use the ones demonstrated, do
both, or do neither.
